Amandean Premium Marine Collagen Overview
Amandean’s Premium Marine Collagen Powder is a versatile, pure, and eco-friendly protein option for people of all lifestyles. Unlike many other collagen supplements which are sourced from cows or chickens, this marine collagen powder is 100% collagen sourced from wild-caught cod in the North Atlantic. You won’t find any sweeteners, preservatives, GMOs, gluten, wheat, corn, eggs, dairy, soy, or yeast tainting the purity of this product -- it’s pure collagen through and through.
Ingredients and sourcing
The ingredients list really isn’t a list at all; the sole ingredient in this product is hydrolyzed fish collagen. Marine collagen has a smaller molecular weight than bovine collagen which makes it more digestible and up to 150% more bioavailable. Sure, you can find plenty of other collagen supplements, perhaps even with a lower price tag. However, many of these supplement brands (I won’t name them), aren’t nearly as forthcoming about the source of their collagen.
Collagen is a natural protein produced by various mammals. It can only be sourced from the hides, tendons, and skins of animals and fish. Aside from one’s feelings about supporting industrial-scale farming, there is a second compelling reason to avoid non-marine collagen. Animals raised in captivity often experience stress and overcrowding which can lead to disease. Along with stress-related chemicals, the antibiotics given to livestock prophylactically can wind up in collagen powder supplements. Amandean steers clear of this issue by only sourcing from sustainable, ethical, and clean farms/waterways and processes their ingredients in a state-of-the-art FDA-cGMP compliant facility.
Their marine collagen in particular is sourced from the skins of wild-caught cod. These fish are caught in the clean waters of the North Atlantic ocean by fishermen who follow sustainable fishing practices. Compared to farmed fish, choosing to use wild-caught fish avoids antibiotics and diseases from making their way into collagen products. Not to mention that marine collagen can be considered a zero-waste product because it makes use of fish skins which would otherwise be discarded as an unwanted byproduct.

Amandean recommends adding one 10g scoop to your daily coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, smoothie, or even glass of water. Solubility is best when the liquid is added to the powder due to its low molecular weight. It is best taken with a source of vitamin C, as it will provide for maximum absorption in the body. Personally I like to add 1-2 scoops to my breakfast porridge to help bump up my protein intake first thing.

The pros and cons
Let’s kick it off on a high note with some of the pros!
It is hot and cold soluble, so you can add it to water, coffee, tea, juice, smoothies, and even oatmeal and pancakes.
It is virtually tasteless so you can add it to your favorite recipes without making any noticeable difference to the taste. Going “flavor-free” also ensures that you aren’t adding any unnecessary sugars to your diet.
Collagen is produced naturally within the body so it is unlikely to cause stomach irritation or digestive problems.
Compared to other sources of collagen and even other marine collagen brands, Amandean’s dedication to providing the highest quality, pure-collagen supplement is clear.
Amandean is plastic neutral meaning that 100% of the plastic produced to package this product will be offset with plastic cleanups (see more about their partnership with rePurpose Global here)
Fantastic customer support.
Daily collagen supplementation has been shown to increase muscle mass and speed up muscle recovery
Collagen has many anti-aging benefits such as improved skin texture and elasticity (AKA fewer wrinkles), decreased joint pain, and even reduced bone loss.
It also comes in convenient single-use stick packets so you don’t have to lug a huge jar or ziplock bag filled with a mysterious white powder with you to the gym
“Subscribe and save” options are available to keep you on track with your collagen nutrition at a considerable discount.
The cons
The downsides to this product are few and far between, but I do love playing devil’s advocate so here goes.
It’s only available in the United States.
Not quite as soluble as I might have hoped. While Amadean suggests adding it to tea or coffee, I probably wouldn’t recommend it.
The price tag. While admittedly it’s not the most expensive, at around $45 USD per 17.6 oz jar, it’s certainly not the cheapest protein powder supplement available either. That said, given its purity, versatility, and sustainability, it’s well worth the price.
It’s not vegan. Since collagen is produced by mammals, finding a truly vegan collagen supplement isn’t really an option. Although it is suitable and friendly to the pescatarian, keto, and paleo diets.
Measuring the true efficacy of any supplement can be very tricky. If you have doubts, do your research, read their customer reviews and of course, reach out to Amandean directly if you have any questions at all. Their customer support was excellent.
Due to Amandean’s extra precaution to avoid overfishing, it can be prone to selling out from time to time. Best get it while you can!
How to take (dosage)
Amandean recommends consuming one 10g scoop of collagen per day. However, if like me you consider yourself a serious athlete and have higher protein needs, you can safely consume two scoops per day. I mix 1 scoop into my breakfast porridge and have a 1:1 ratio of Collagen to Whey post workout.
Why choose Marine Collagen?
It’s the most abundant protein in the human body and is responsible for adding flexibility and durability to our joints, skin, hair, nails, blood vessels, eyes, and muscles to name a few. It’s the “anti-aging” protein because when levels are high, joint pain is low and wrinkles are less visible. However, this fountain of youth doesn’t run forever. As we age, our bodies produce less and less protein resulting in muscle atrophy, joint pain, and sagging skin. This is where collagen supplements can come in handy!
How does collagen compare to other types of protein supplements?
Rice, Soy, whey, collagen, and all the rest have been shown to help build muscle, speed up recovery, and even support weight loss in their own ways. While there’s no clear winner to which one “does it better”, collagen does seem to have slightly more widespread benefits and is suitable for a wide variety of diets. One of the things that appeals most to me is its anti-aging benefits. As I push towards middle age, I find that my skin isn’t quite as firm as it was in my twenties and early thirties. Since supplementing with collagen, I've noticed a slight improvement in skin firmness around my waistline and legs and the bags around my eyes seem to be a little lighter.

How long does it take to notice results?
Results vary depending on dosage, need, and the body’s pre-existing collagen levels. However, results can generally be seen within a month of daily use.
Did I notice any difference?
I’m certainly no stranger to protein powder. I’ve been taking some form or another since I started weight training in my early teens. As with all supplements, it can be very difficult to measure their true efficacy. They aren’t magic and they certainly can’t replace hard work and a healthy balanced diet. With that said, supplements can be extremely convenient and I found that taking marine collagen was very complementary to my nutritional plan and active lifestyle.
When it comes to bulking up and gaining muscle, it’s hard to know if collagen is as good as the alternatives. However, what I noticed was that my rest days felt “lighter” and my joints felt a little less painful. Both of which could be a result of taking collagen daily. While it wasn’t my main objective initially, my skin showed signs of improvement and ended up looking and feeling more hydrated. After 3 months, the skin on my stomach and thighs now feels a little firmer and the wrinkles and darkness around my eyes seem to be a bit less pronounced.
So yes, I have noticed a difference since taking collagen, especially to my skin.
Conclusion – Is Amandean’s Marine Collagen the best?
When it comes to collagen supplements, I have to say that Amandean’s is definitely one of the better ones. Their dedication to purity and sustainability in not only their Marine collagen but in all their products is quite clear. Their customer service team was great and their recurring orders option made delivery almost effortless.
Whether you’re looking to build muscle, slim down, reduce joint and muscle pain, or improve the quality and appearance of your skin, this product will serve you well.
Overall score 8/10
