Performance Lab PL-Immune Review: Give your immune system a boost!

performance lab pl immune review

We review Performance Lab PL-Immune. A powerful immune performance supplement designed to boost and support short and long-range immune health.

If the past few years have taught us anything at all, it’s that maintaining good health and a strong immune system is something that we should never take for granted. The immune system is our body’s natural defense system and protects us against foreign invaders of all kinds and severities. Without a healthy and strong immune system, it becomes much harder for our bodies to thrive and perform in every aspect of life. From workouts to daily activities.

In this review we cover:

Overview

Performance Lab’s PL-Immune™ is a breakthrough immunity formula that restores front-line defenses fast. It supports both short and long-range immune health by activating and enhancing 5 different immune cell types. It may even help to maintain your immune defenses during exercise which some believe can temporarily lower immune function.

short range long range adaptive defense

According to Performance Lab, their encapsulated supplement helps to overcome vitamin & mineral shortfalls, stress, toxins, and overtraining which can all lead to weakened immune defenses. Through their ultramodern formula, PL-Immune is able to deliver both innate (short-range) and adaptive (long-range) defense to your immune system. Each small but mighty capsule contains a blend of probiotics, antioxidants, and a mix of vitamins and minerals to activate five different types of immune cells.

The 5 different types of Immune Cells

Now, normally I would jump straight into the ingredients that make up the PL-Immune supplement but before I do, I think it’s worthwhile taking the time to explain the five different types of immune cells that this supplement activates and how it impacts your immune system in the short and long run. At the most basic level, you need to know that the immune system is composed of cells, organs, and tissues that all work together to protect your body from bacteria, viruses, parasites, and anything else that has the ability to make us sick. First, our immune system creates a barrier to keep them out. Then, if anything slips through the cracks, the immune system creates white blood cells, proteins, and chemicals to destroy it.

Here are the five specific immune cells that PL-Immune activates:

  1. PDC (Plasmacytoid dendritic cells): First up we have PDC, aka the “commander”. This immune cell activates four other immune cell classes to fight.

  2. Natural Killer (NK) cells: Next up are the NK cells. These speedy little assassins eliminate invaders and infected cells.

  3. Killer T-Cells: These T-cells are licensed to kill specific invaders, infected cells, and damaged cells.

  4. Helper T-Cells: These helper T-cells are the “good cops” - they direct B-cells and T-cells to make antibodies and fight invaders.

  5. B-Cells (B lymphocytes): B-cells produce antibodies that target, bind, and neutralize specific antigens.

Ingredients

Like most of the products in the Performance Lab lineup, you won’t find any fillers of fluff here. It contains NO soy, egg, fish, shellfish, dairy, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, or other allergens. It’s non-GMO, non-irradiated, banned substance tested, and free of gluten, synthetic additives, artificial colors and preservatives. They use a unique blend of highly effective probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to act fast and help your system fight a variety of challenges, old and new.

  • LC-Plasma (IMMUSE™): LC-plasma is a heat-treated probiotic AKA Lactococcus lactis. The lactic acid probiotics that you’d typically find in dairy products like kefir and yogurt activate one class of immune cells. What makes this formula stand out, however, is that Performance Lab’s LC-Plasma activates the pDC cells. If you recall from our little “immune system 101” above, the role of the pDC cell is to activate four additional types of immune cells. This primes both the short and long-range immune responses and delivers true broad-range support.

  • Setria Glutathione: Glutathione is seen as the body’s master antioxidants, protecting immune cells from oxidative stress and strengthening the immune system as a whole. Its impact on the immune system is pretty profound:

    • It increases the number of T-cells

    • It stimulates the production of NK cells

    • It supports the immune cells’ normal antibody responses

    • It strengthens the gut lining to keep invaders out

  • NutriGenesis® Immune Essentials: PL-Immune also contains highly bioavailable vitamins and minerals.

    • NutriGenesis® Vitamin D: Vitamin D may enhance the antimicrobial effects of immune cells as well as helping to regulate the immune response.

    • NutriGenesis® Vitamin C: Vitamin C is the all-star vitamin when it comes to supporting your immune system. It enhances the development and proliferation of B-cells and T-cells and bolsters the immune response during and after exercise. It’s most notably known for its antioxidant properties to protect immune cells from oxidative stress.

    • NutriGenesis® Zinc: Conservatively speaking, about a quarter of the world’s population is at risk of zinc deficiency and immune system suppression. Zinc helps restore immune cells’ healthy function by increasing both NK and T-Cell growth and function.

    • NutriGenesis® Selenium: Selenium is essential for healthy immune function. It strengthens natural defenses by helping to form glutathione (a powerful antioxidant) and regulating immune cell activity by forming selenoproteins.

  • You only need to take one capsule a day!

  • The broad range of ultramodern ingredients provide fast, frontline defenses to support your natural immune function for robust long-range health. That means if you’re having a mid-pandemic panic, PL-Immune can provide a quick boost to your immune system and is still for daily and continued use. They use a 100% vegan formula!

  • It includes a variety of vitamins and minerals that many people struggle to consume through their diets alone and would otherwise contribute to a weakened immune system.

  • One of the primary ingredients, LC-Plasma (AKA IMMUSE™) has been backed by 7 different human clinical trials for efficacy and 2 for safety.

  • Compared to other immune system supplements which only activate NK immune cells, PL-Immune provides broad range support and activates five different types of cells.

The cons

Full transparency. I love performance Lab supplements and I genuinely always struggle to find cons when I'm reviewing their products. Even more so when it comes to a science-backed all-natural supplement shown to protect your body from illness but hey, let’s give it a go.

  • The price. At $49US a month, it’s certainly not cheap. On the flip side, their research-backed high-quality ingredients and formula make it worth the extra $s

  • While the vitamins in this supplement are essential for immune function, you might already be taking them through diet or in another multivitamin.

  • Aside from the potential improvements in your gut health, it’s always hard to determine and feel the “results”. Essentially, if you aren’t getting sick or aren’t getting sick as often, it’s probably working! This can be hard for some people to gauge, especially for those whose immune systems are fairly consistent regardless of the season.

  • Only available for purchase on the Performance Lab website.

How to take (dosage)

Easy peasy! It’s one capsule a day with your first meal, ideally with a source of dietary fat to help absorption. For best results and to support your body's immune system and performance throughout the year, use consistently.

Is it necessary? (you bet it is!)

No vitamin or supplement is a surefire way to cure or prevent diseases, COVID-19 included. With that said, supplementing your diet with specific vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants such as the ones in PL-Immune can improve your immune response and potentially protect you against illness. If you ask me, that certainly makes it worthwhile.

Most people take getting the flu, a yearly cold, or allergies as inevitable but this doesn’t have to be the case! While there is no way to make your body totally bulletproof and impervious to any illness, maintaining a healthy immune system is absolutely critical.

As a personal trainer and sport’s nutrition specialist, one of the things that has really frustrated me most since the start of the Covid pandemic is the sheer incompetence of government recommendations. I may get in trouble for saying this and while their recommendations for keeping socially distant, wearing a mask in public, washing your hands regularly, etc may be relevant and somewhat effective, one thing they’ve failed to mention is the importance of a healthy and strong immune system in the fight against illness. If good nutrition and an immune-boosting supplement such as this can help, we should all be taking one!

Conclusion

PL Immune Ingredients

If you want a “one-stop-shop” for filling in common nutritional gaps, restoring gut health, and strengthening your immunity in the short and long run, this is it! PL-Immune delivers true broad-range performance and is suitable for anyone seeking to support healthy immune system function. Not only does it go above and beyond by activating five different types of immune cells (compare this to typical supplements that only activate one kind), it supports your innate immune system (short-range) and adaptive immune system (long-range).

Every ingredient has a specific and powerful function. You won’t find any fillers, GMOs, artificial colors, preservatives, or fluff in the Performance Lab line. It’s vegan-friendly and gluten-free, so it can be used by anyone regardless of diet.

My overall score: 9/10

Performance Lab is so confident that you’ll agree that it offers a money-back guarantee if you aren’t happy with their product.
